Aishwarya Rai – The Model who went on to become Miss World:

Aishwarya Rai made her first commercial modeling debut with Camlin pencils, while she was studying in 9th grade. Today her impressive ad portfolio includes L'Oréal Paris, DeBeers Diamonds, Pepsi and Coca-Cola and Longines watches for which she was the ambassador since 1999. She was also the Coca Cola Girl for Middle Eastern countries.

While at college Aishwarya Rai began modeling on the side. Later she contested in the Miss India 1994 pageant and lost to Sushmita Sen. Undaunted, she went on to contest for Miss World in the same year and won the title. From here her life took a new turn.

She was soon flooded with modeling endorsements and film offers. But she refused all, still wanting to become an architect. Indian Cinema’s top directors were hell-bent on signing her for their movies. But the inevitable had to happen and there was no escape for Aishwarya Rai.

In “Devdas”, she played the immortal character, Parvathi, who fails to marry her only childhood friend and lover, ‘Devdas’ and instead marries a 60-year-old widower with a large family. Her performance as Parvathi was amazing and won her seven ‘Best Actress’ awards including Zee Cine Award, Filmfare Award, RACE Award, Sansui Award, Bollywood Award, Screen Award and Screen Jodi No.1 Award with Shahrukh Khan.
